Educational Assessment / Cognitive Assessment

I offer Educational Assessments (Cognitive Assessments) for children and adults. I have adopted a detailed approach to educational assessment which includes assessment of core intellectual ability as well as scholastic achievement.

Neuropsychological tests are also used to focus my findings where there appears to be a specific learning difficulty. In this way I am able to provide a more definitive diagnosis with additional focus on the individual’s strengths. Most importantly however, it allows me to develop an individualised intervention/treatment plan.

Such an assessment takes approximately 3-4  hours, depending on the age of the individual. Again, dependent on age and availability, assessment can be done on one day or over two separate days.

Educational Assessments incorporate the following:

  • Parent Interview (or in the case of adults, a clinical interview with the candidate)
  • Assessment
  • Data Analysis/Interpretation
  • Verbal Feedback with a comprehensive written report (approximately 10 pages in general) and recommended intervention plan

NOTE: While most consultations are held at my practice, I am generally able to assess a child at their school if this is more convenient and if the school is able to provide a suitable office or room for the process.

Career Assessment / Subject Choice Assessment

Both Career and Subject Choice Assessments focus on the individual’s personality, interests, work values and aptitude to determine a direction and way forward in terms of either future studies or career path.

Assessment takes approximately 3 hours in total with assessment and interviewing held on day one and feedback on a second day.

Career and Subject Choice Assessments incorporate the following:

  • Clinical Interview
  • Personality Assessment
  • Interests Assessment
  • Work Values Assessment
  • Coaching exercise to assess goals and vision
  • Verbal Feedback with a comprehensive written report and recommendations

Cognitive testing can also be included – this can be discussed as an option on booking.

School Readiness Assessment and Developmental Assessment

School Readiness/Developmental Assessments take on a similar structure and content to the educational assessment, but target younger children and incorporate assessment of cognitive ability and development as well as aspects of concept development, social/emotional development, visual motor development and speech/language development.

Assessment takes between 3 and 4 hours in total and is generally held over two days to allow young children to concentrate at their best.

School Readiness Assessments incorporate the following:

  • Parent Interview
  • Assessment
  • Data Analysis/Interpretation
  • Verbal Feedback with a comprehensive written report (approximately 10 pages in general) and recommended intervention plan if necessary

NOTE: While most consultations are held at my practice, I am generally able to assess a child at their school if this is more convenient and if the school is able to provide a suitable office or room for the process

Concessions and Accommodations Assessment (IEB format used)

Accommodations Assessments follow the structure and requirements outlined in IEB protocols around concessions and accommodations.

Assessment takes between 4 and 5 hours and is generally conducted in one morning.

IEB Concession Assessments incorporate the following:

  • Clinical History Interview (with parent and child)
  • Assessment
  • Data Analysis/Interpretation
  • Verbal Feedback with a comprehensive written report (approximately 10 pages in general) and recommended intervention plan

NOTE: While most consultations are held at my practice, I am generally able to assess a child at their school if this is more convenient and if the school is able to provide a suitable office or room for the process.

It is government policy that learners with specific needs be accommodated such that they might fully express their potential:
